The Don Valley Stadium, Sheffield opened in 1990 and was the venue for the 1991 World Student Games. It had a 25000 seating capacity for athletics and later held music concerts up to a 50000 capacity. Iconic performers such as The Rolling Stones, U2, Celine Dion and Bon Jovi played sell out shows at the Stadium. Below the main grandstand was a flood lit running track with the six flood lights rising 45 metres above.

Demolition commenced in late 2013 and over 3000 tonnes of steel were recovered from the site and thousands of tonnes of concrete were recycled on site, all at a nil cost to the client. We worked closely with our client- Sheffield City Council as this was a sensitive project initially causing concern to local sports fans and MP’s alike with many people sad to see the stadium go but the whole area has been regenerated with a school and offices etc now.

Following on we carried out a full regeneration of the land for Henry Boot at a cost of £1.2 million to make way for the re-development.
